Message Glad to hear from a couple of ex-AD fella's. I did 8 years with the USAF as PMEL Tech (AFSC 32470), and I was able to specialize in RF/Microwave measurement and calibration. I really enjoyed working with the Avionics folks who actually got all of the systems working in the aircraft. I became a pro with many of the missile guidance systems HARM, AIM-9, Mavericks and the ECM systems. The coolest was working on alot of the SR-71 and U2 equipment when I was at Beale in northern Cal.

One nice thing that the V1 is able to do, not sure about the 8500 x50, is that it can discriminate between the incident and reflected energy for the same RF signal to a high degree of accuracy. The fact that it counts the number of different signals is helpful too. The V1 is also *supposedly* built to prevent RFI/EMI loss of its Local Oscillator so it is not as easily detected by Radar Detetector Detectors. I live in NC and make trips to Virginia on occassion to visit family and play the Lottery;) and as long as I don't have the detector in a conspicuous location, I can still use it in a state that has outlawed their use. I do not condone this behavior, it's just something I do in order to keep up with traffic with the locals.
